Writing my way through ...

If twitter can use 140 characters, I certainly can get my thoughts down in an 8.5 x 11 space.

Here's my challenge to you: within the confines of a sheet of paper (8.5 x 11) write down your thoughts. It's that simple. Leave your keyboard for a moment, pick up the closest pen or pencil and actually write down all that swirling confusion/joy/pain/excitement. Nothing perfect is expected. Crossed out words are welcome. It's all about the flow from your brain through your fingers in all it's curves and quotes ... you'll feel better. I know I do.

Listen here to the NPR broadcast called Doodle Your Way Out of Writer's Block. (FYI: They get into handwriting more than doodling around 13 minutes in.)

Hi Jacqui!
I think better with pen and paper, too! Typing doesn't feel the same. I go through journaling feast and famine. Right now is a famine, but I feel inspired to begin again. Thanks! Love ya~ Happy Thanksgiving!

I agree 100% I may never look at what I have written again but it certainly helps me process information.Being an emotional person I can usually get enough perspective this way to have a rational conversation and arrive at some measure of closure. As a Wife ,Mother ,Sister ,Daughter ,Friend etc... the number of things I need to do seems endless and often overwhelming. You are not alone.Sending loving thoughts and wishes for a wonderful Turkey Day !

Ha! The blank paper & a good, well-loved pen? Makes me nuts. NO JOKE. Give me a blank screen any day! ;) Still, I'll try it sometime & see if I've "grown." ;)

April Fool's Day Pranks

Oh what joy this day brings. Just thinking about pranks thrills me to tears! I decided to make up a tasty treat for my family along with a few other low-key pranks. Enjoy! April Fool's Day Chocolate Chip Cookies: She wasn't very happy with me when I told her what they were ... she was too keen on these - knew something wasn't quite right and never actually tried one. Did you figure it out?  These are baked taters and black beans!!! Simply delicious if you're expecting garlic, salt, sour cream, and potatoes!  Here's how: 1. Whip up your favorite mashed potato recipe (I used 3 medium potatoes) 2. Mix in a few drops of yellow food coloring (3 drops was enough for this batch) 3. Stir in 1/2 can rinsed black beans 4. Then drop on a cookie sheet in a 350* oven for 30-45 minutes ... until golden on the top. These will taste delicious with a little salsa at dinner time!  By the way: I did make REAL cookies so as not to comp

wii are fat and wii need a change

For Thom's 40th birthday/Christmas present we purchased a wii. I was reluctant but it was THE only thing he'd been asking for since June of '07. Whenever we received gift cards for our wedding he asked (begged!) for a wii. I politely denied his request and continued meandering through the housewares section. Since he was still asking for one a year and a half later, I figured he was serious about wanting the wii and this wasn't some toy helicopter that he'd play with for a few weeks and then forget about. I have to say I've enjoyed the wii ... even renewed my love of Tetris. It's an expensive toy though. I'm not a fan of credit cards and spending money we don't have, but we made a purchase last Monday that we're putting to good use. The wii Fit. For two fatties who sit on the couch and watch tv every night this has been a great tool for us! This past week has been so different. It's nice to come home, have fun, be together, and work
